Welcome Back to Currie Chieftains

Welcome back to all our members, players, coaches, parents, supporters, sponsors and friends of Currie Chieftains after what I hope has been an enjoyable summer.

It doesn’t take long after the end of one season before you start looking forward to the next, and there is a real sense of anticipation around the club as we get ready for another season of rugby.

Our opening fixtures give us plenty to look forward to, including the trip to Glasgow Hawks at Balgray. Hawks are always a challenging opponent and Games between the two clubs tend to be competitive and entertaining, and this should be an excellent early test for our team. It will be an opportunity to see how the squad has developed over the summer and, importantly, to establish the standards and attitude that we want to carry through the season.

Looking back, last season gave us plenty to be proud of. Our senior side came close in both domestic competitions and we are confident we can again make it to both finals and pull off a win. The club also continues to benefit from the strength of our youth rugby, with boys and girls across the age groups enjoying their rugby and developing both on and off the field. That pathway from youth rugby through to senior rugby is one of the most important things we have as a club, and it is something we should all take pride in.

Of course, while the players have been enjoying some well-earned time away from rugby, the club itself certainly hasn’t been on holiday!

The summer has been an exceptionally busy period behind the scenes. There has been a huge amount of work going on to prepare our grounds and facilities, organise teams and fixtures, plan the season ahead, deal with administration, maintain the clubhouse and pitches, and ensure that everything is ready to welcome everyone back.

None of that happens without volunteers.

As President, I would particularly like to thank every one of our volunteers who has given up their time over the summer. Much of what you do goes on quietly and often without recognition, but it is absolutely fundamental to the club. Whether you have been cutting grass, fixing things, organising teams, dealing with paperwork, coaching, preparing facilities, helping with events or simply doing whatever was needed at the time, your contribution is enormously appreciated.

Currie Chieftains is a community club, and the strength of that community is what makes us special. Our players may be the ones who take the field, but there is a very large team behind them.

So, as we start the new season, let’s get behind all our teams, support our coaches and volunteers, and make sure that the clubhouse and touchlines are as welcoming and as enthusiastic as ever.

There is plenty to look forward to.

Good luck to everyone involved this season – and particularly to the team heading to Balgray to take on Glasgow Hawks. Let’s hope the new season gets off to a very positive start.
