Currie Community Rugby Clubhouse Development

Currie Community Rugby Trust & Currie Chieftains RFC - Joint project - Clubhouse Development

Currie Community Rugby Trust is working closely with the Currie Chieftains Rugby Club to run a joint project to develop the new clubhouse.

We have jointly established a project for the extension and upgrading of our recreational facilities that are used to encourage youth - boys and girls to get involved with sport from across our local area. This facility will also enable us to support greater recreational and social programmes across our community. This development will be done in two phases - first phase is to provide additional changing rooms for the youth teams that are accessible to all and includes upgraded Physio and gym facilities. The cost for this has been broken down into 2 budgets. Initial budget is for design & planning with a cost of £50k (includes planning submission fees, reports and design team costs) and 2nd budget is for the 1st phase of  the build -  £500k (match funding to go alongside SRU and Sport Scotland funding) which totals £1.5m. The 2nd Phase of the build will encompass further clubhouse extension to facilitate more community activities at a cost of £500k

Our relationship with the Currie Chieftains rugby club has seen a joint approach to community rugby with a successful track record of developing youth sports in our community, with a thriving youth - boys and girls section. This includes include both physical and pastoral programmes which have shown themselves to be hugely beneficial to the young people in our community.

This has built on the rugby club's reputation as a pillar of the community provide recreational and public amenities used by all age groups with strong links to our local schools and educational development. Our development will enable us to extend our programmes to a wider youth population through sport.

We are increasingly encouraging our staff and volunteers to develop their qualifications and create training programmes for recognition and understanding of disabilities including neurodiverse capabilities, enabling us to be more diverse and inclusive with community we serve.

Through our schools outreach programme we are working with families that are less able to support and fund sports activities for their children

Our continued reputation to produce and support one of the biggest youth mini tournaments on an annual basis shows our commitment to our programmes.

Our capability to produce quality young players that get selected to play and represent Scotland ( including our Girls who are now operating at a district and international level) continues to demonstrate our capability to grow and nurture young people to reach their full potential.

Our coaches are working towards neurodiverse qualifications that they are keen to attain to enable them to overcome the challenges with teaching and educating young people with special needs.

We support community activities - e.g. Gala days, community enterprise and our clubhouse provides the mechanism to support income generation for the wider community through the likes of film crews which brings money into the local area. The clubhouse through the "breakout cafe" also provides a local hub where the community can access a warm space for good food at a reasonable price, act as a local business hub through free wifi and working spaces. We have a strong relationship with local business and sponsors where we work in partnership to provide events and marketing opportunities to grow both parties.

The facilities or lack off are now critical. the development of the clubhouse is now a blocker for our long-term strategy for development of the trusts activities and its delivery through the club and its staff/volunteers.

Funding avenues and partnerships are being worked on by the team to take us to the next stage of the project.
